Aruba will remind you of a tropical paradise. The island rarely receives rain making it an ideal place to vacation year round. The Dutch influenced island is one of the most fashionable destinations in the Caribbean. Aruba is located in the southern portion of the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Venezuela.
Aruba offers visitors many natural wonders. You will see craggy seashores, and buried reefs; you can ride horseback along the shore, scuba, and snorkel. You will also enjoy the old-world capital, Oranjestad, the resorts, and casinos.
Aruba is surrounded by fabulous light sand beaches. The coastline is windswept, great for windsurfing. Most resorts are located on Eagle Beach and Palm Beach with more romantic hideaways on some of the smaller beaches. All of the major hotels are here along with local Divi hotels which will give you a taste of the real Aruba and are very welcoming.
While you are on the island rent a 4x4 or ATV and go exploring. The Natural Pool on the North End is a really interesting natural water formation. Nearby, the California lighthouse offers scenic views.
The largest festival on the island is Carnival, held the beginning of the year. Aruba’s Carnival is reminiscent of New Orleans’s Mardi Gras with celebrations and parades. Many other festivals focus on the water and water sports. There are festivals for wind surfing and yachting. Aruba boasts some of the best golfing in the Caribbean.
Stoba di Bestia Chiquito is a local specialty stew of goat meat and vegetables. It is offered at many restaurants around the island. Balashi Beer is the national beer of Aruba. You will see lots of this beer being consumed on the beach. Balashi comes from Bala Bala and means "near the sea." The Balashi Brewery is on Aruba and visitors can take a tour of the facilities.
Getting around the island is easy. You will not usually need to rent a car. There are taxis available in town and at the resorts, you can walk most places, and you can rent a scooter of ATV.
You will arrive and depart from the Reina Beatrix International Airport. The airport is located on the western side of the island. All major airlines fly into Aruba making travel very easy.
